You have decided to leave your current job even though you enjoy it.
Write a letter to inform your manager of your decision. In your letter
- tell the manager about your decision and the reason for it
- describe what you learnt in your current job

Dear Mr. Watkins,
It is with sadness that I must inform you of my intention to resign from the company.
My time at Simac Co. has been terrific in that I learnt so much from you and the other managers and colleagues, and I feel fortunate to have been given the opportunity to lead several teams and to be trusted with running the projects. I feel every day I learnt a new management skill. On a personal level, your coaching has been invaluable, and I do believe it’s true when I say that anyone who comes within your sphere of influence is blessed.
My reason for leaving is that I feel I must seek out new challenges and test my abilities in other environments, yet it is still with a heavy heart to write this letter. In leaving, I would like to ask you for a letter of reference in order to locate future employment. If you have any queries about either my resignation or letter of reference, feel free to ask.
