Atlas（阿特拉斯）

Do you know that the Atlantic Ocean in English actually means “sea of Atlas”? Atlantis, the legendary and mysterious island believed to represent lost civilization, could be interpreted（翻译） as “island of Atlas”.

你知道吗？在英语中“大西洋（Atlantic）”的意思是“阿特拉斯海”；那个代表了失落文明的传奇神秘岛屿“亚特兰蒂斯”，则可以翻译成“阿特拉斯岛”。

In modern English, atlas refers to a book of maps or charts（图表）. In Greek mythology, Atlas was one of the Titans who revolted（反抗） against the Olympians in the war Titanomachy（提坦之战）.

在当代英语中，atlas指的是地图册。在希腊神话中，阿特拉斯是提坦巨人之一。在“提坦之战”中，他们是奥林匹斯山众神的敌人

When the Titans were defeated, most of them were confined（关押） to Tartarus, but Zeus condemned Atlas to stand at the western edge of Gaea and hold up the sky on his shoulders, preventing the two from resuming their primordial embrace.

因此，当提坦巨人战败之后，大多数巨人都被关进了塔尔塔洛斯。阿特拉斯是个例外。宙斯罚他站在大地的西边，用双肩扛起天空，以阻止他与地母再次拥抱。

Pandora（潘多拉）

In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first mortal（人类） woman created by Hephaestus on the command of Zeus, and then sent to the human world as a present.

在希腊神话中，潘多拉是赫菲斯托斯奉宙斯的指令造出的第一个女性人类，她被作为礼物带到了人类世界。

Her name meant “all gifts” because she had been endowed（被赐予） with some special gifts by the gods and goddesses, such as a smooth persuasive tongue by Hermes, a dazzling（耀眼的） beauty by Aphrodite and a gorgeous（华丽的） robe by Athena, each of which could make her irresistible and harmful to man.

她的名字意思就是“所有的礼物”，因为诸神分别赋予了她特殊的礼物，譬如来自赫耳墨斯的巧舌如簧，来自阿芙洛蒂忒的惊人美貌以及来自雅典娜的华丽长袍。每一件礼物都使得她在男人的眼中无法抗拒又祸害无穷。
