加拿大视频博主哈罗德柯克阿普伦(Harold Kirk Apesland)在中国断断续续呆了17年。由于父亲的问题，柯克决定在YouTube上记录自己的中国生活。
三年前柯克开始在广西拍摄Vlog，开始记录在中国看到的东西。目前，Kurk YouTube账号受到数万海外网民的关注。
柯克表示，实际上视频博主拍摄中国故事是为了改变对父亲对中国的误解。
因为我爸爸总是说“你在中国干什么，是社会主义国家”。爸爸，和你想的不一样，中国很好。他不明白。我给他讲了中国的事，他不明白。所以我开始制作关于我在中国生活的视频。" "

通过这个视频，柯克的父亲终于改变了想法，知道中国不错，和他一开始想象的不一样。不仅是他的父亲，柯克在YouTube上上传视频后，很多外国粉丝看到了不同的中国，改变了对中国的看法。
2003年，柯克第一次来到中国，在广西见到了妻子。2014年退休后，柯克从加拿大移居广西定居后一直留在中国。
经过长时间的深入接触后，他发现很多西方人根本不了解中国。
“很多西方人从未来过中国。他们的来源只有西方媒体。他们完全不知道我是怎么感受到中国的。不管他们得到什么信息，都是二手信息。”

中国人开放、包容、热情，但西方媒体似乎不这么形容中国人。甚至没有去过中国的外国人似乎也认为中国不安全。柯克表示，原因仍然是西方主流媒体和政治家对民众的宣传。

“美国、加拿大、英国、澳大利亚和新西兰一直处于顶端，他们比其他国家更富有，生活水平更高，人均消耗的自然资源更多。”

柯克表示，现在他们看着中国说，中国马上就要超过我们了，经济和基础设施建设已经超过我们了。“他们习惯了做第一，我觉得他们不知道怎样当第二。”
And now they're looking at China and saying, oh they're gonna surpass us here in alittle while. Economically they've already surpassed ininfrastructure. And it scares them because they're used to being No 1. And I don't think they can understand how to be number two.
在中国定居多年，柯克亲身经历了中国翻天覆地的变化，对中国的发展和未来，他也有着自己的见解。
关于中国人常提到的小康生活，在他看来，一句话总结就是，“明天比今天过得更好”。
“小康生活其实就是，中国人民追求更美好的明天，就是比今天过得更好，他们想要有房可住、有食物、孩子得到良好教育。他们希望自己和家人越来越好，国家繁荣昌盛，这是他们一直努力奋斗的目标之一。我认为他们现在正在收获成果。”
It goes to the Chinese people are looking at having a better life ;sgoing to be better than today. All they want is a home to live in. They want food on thetable. They want good education for their children. They want prosperity for themselves, their families, their country. It's one of those things that they've been working really hard toget to. And I thinkthey're reaping the rewards of that right now.
“大家都想要更好的生活。也许差异之一是，中国人会比西方人更努力。” 柯克表示，他总能看到中国人努力奋斗，在他的视频中，这种奋斗变得更加具体可见。
以广西为例，
柯克表示，作为一个迅速发展的发展中国家，也许中国还有一些不足。但是中国发现有问题就会想出办法来解决它。
例如，制造业污染问题，中国通过推广电动车来摆脱燃煤；在人口密集的地区，例如北京和上海实施单双号限行；中国还建了很多公共交通......
“坐地铁3元，10分钟就到南宁市区；公交、飞机，方便又便宜。”
柯克现在经常感叹，在中国容易“迷失”，因为一切都太方便了。“有些东西我在中国已经习惯了，而在我自己的国家却找不到。”
我在加拿大的纳奈莫找不到早餐喝的汤，找不到汤面；
我已经习惯了走出家门，转过街角，就能买到烤鸭；
我已经习惯了去农贸市场，而不是去超市或者沃尔玛买食物……
“我的习惯已经变成了我对生活默认的期望”，柯克表示，现在回加拿大只待很短一阵子，看望家人和朋友，然后就回中国。
“我看到政府正在修建更好的道路，有更好的基础设施，有新的住房。高速列车连通中国农村地区，提高了这些地区的开放程度。”
I see that the government is building better roads. They've got better infrastructure. There's new know, the idea the high-speed trainsystems into the rural areas of China, it's sort of opening up those areas of China.
柯克说，这非常棒，因为这样做之后，从一个地方到另一个地方变得更容易，就带来了更多游客、更多经济收入，让中国农村地区的这些小村庄有了更多的商业活动。
在过去的五年中，中国帮助最后一部分贫困人口脱贫，柯克认为，中国政府能做到这些真是太了不起了。
“我在乡村看到了人们脸上的笑容，看到他们过上了更好的日子，未来他们也一定会越来越好。”
