Raining cats and dogs – 下倾盆大雨。例如:Wow! Look outside. It's raining cats and dogs. 哇!外面下倾盆大雨了。
(To be) full of hot air – 夸夸其谈;吹牛。例如:He's always talking about how he is going to find gold in the river. I don't believe him. I think he's full of hot air. 他总是说他会在河里找到金子,我不信,我觉得他在吹牛。
When it rains it pours – 字面意思为不雨则已,一雨惊人。用于人则可说不鸣则已,一鸣惊人。有的字典上解释为“祸不单行” “屋漏偏逢连夜雨”。例如:I just got sacked and my wife left me! So it never rains but it pours! 我刚被解雇,接着我妻子也离了我。真是祸不单行。
Sunny – 高兴的或令人愉快的。例如:The new office girl has a very sunny personality. 办公室新来的女孩让人觉得很阳光(或相处起来很愉悦)。
A breeze – 简单,小菜一碟。例如:That test was a breeze. 那项测试小菜一碟。
A fair-weathered friend – 酒肉朋友;能同甘但是不能共苦的朋友。
Under the weather – 感觉不适;心情不好。例如:Joan felt under the weather after she failed her history exam. 琼考完历史后心情很不好。
Cloud nine – 九霄云外;极乐心情。例如:After I got my dream job I was on cloud nine. 我得到梦寐以求的工作后乐的找不着北了。
Weather the storm – 渡过难关。例如:Even though my father lost his job, we were able to weather the storm. Now everything is better.即使我的父亲经失去了工作,但是我们还能够渡过难关。现在一切都好起来了。
Save for a rainy day – 未雨绸缪。例如:We save money for a rainy day. 我们存些钱,以备不时之需。
Head in the cloud – 不切实际,好高骛远。例如:You can't always have your head in the cloud, you need to be down-to-earth. 你不能总是好高骛远,要切合实际。
Sail close to the wind – 冒险。例如:If you believe what he said, you are sailing close to the wind. 如果你要是信他的话,那你就是在冒险了。
