Let's start by looking at how to give positive feedback.

让我们先来看一下如何提供正面反馈。

Hi, you wanted to talk to me?

嗨,你想和我聊一下吗?

I did?

我吗?

Ah, yes, I remember!

啊,是的,我记起来了!

It won't take long.

不会花很长时间的。

Is there a problem?

有什么问题吗?

No, not at all!

没有没有!

Actually, I just wanted to tell you I really liked how you handled the meeting with Omnitouch.

其实我只是想告诉你,我非常喜欢你处理和 Omnitouch 的会议的方式。

Oh, thanks!

哦,谢谢!

It was a challenging situation.

当时充满了挑战。

None of us thought they would come in with so many difficult, technical questions, and, honestly, that guy — what was his name? Brian? — I thought he was being quite aggressive.

我们谁都没有想到他们会提出这么多这么难的技术问题,老实说,那个家伙——他叫什么名字? 布莱恩? ——我觉得他很有攻击性。

I admired the way you were able to keep your cool and stick to the point.

我很欣赏你能够保持冷静而且坚持核心观点的处理方式。

Sure, I suppose it wasn't the easiest meeting, but it wasn't too stressful.

当然了,我想这不是最简单的会议,但压力并不算太大。

I'm used to situations like that.

我已经习惯了这种情况。

Yes, but still, not everyone can stay calm in that position.

是的,但是并不是每个人都能保持冷静。

Also, the visuals you prepared for our presentation were very impressive.

除此之外,你为我们的演讲准备的视觉效果也非常棒。

They looked professional, but also communicated key information clearly.

它们看上去很专业,但也清楚地传达了关键信息。

Glad you think so.

很高兴你这么想。

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know.

无论如何,我只是想让你知道。

Keep up the good work!

继续加油哦!

Will do!

肯定的!

In the dialogue, you heard different ways to praise someone's work.

在对话中,你听到了不同的方式来赞美某人的工作。

Look at some sentences.

看一些句子。

Can you remember the missing words?

你能记住漏掉的单词吗?

If not, you can review the dialogue if you want.

如果记不住的话,你可以根据需要回顾我们的对话。

Here are the answers.

答案在这里。

You can use these phrases in other ways.

你可以通过其他方式使用这些短语。

For example: 'I really liked how you explained everything so clearly.' 'I admire the way you never miss a deadline, even when we're under a lot of pressure.' 'The way you dealt with that customer's complaint was very impressive.' What about you?

例如说:‘我真的很喜欢你这么清楚地解释一切。’‘我很欣赏即使你承受着巨大的压力,但是也不会赶不上截止日期。’‘你处理客户投诉的方式非常令人印象深刻。’那你呢?

Can you think of other ways to complete these sentences?

你能想到其他方法来完成这些句子吗?

Think about your work recently.

考虑一下你最近的工作。

Have your colleagues done anything which impressed you?

你的同事做了什么令你印象深刻的事情?

Use your own ideas to complete these sentences.

使用你自己的想法来完成这些句子。

Pause the video and say your examples out loud now.

暂停视频,然后大声说出你的例子。

What about 'keep up the good work'?

“继续好好工作”这个短语怎么样?

This is a general phrase.

这是一个通用的短语。

You can use it when you're pleased with someone's work, and you want to encourage them.

当你对某人的工作感到满意并希望鼓励他们时,可以使用它。

Next, what if you need to give someone negative feedback?

接下来,如果你需要给某人负面反馈怎么办呢?

Can I have a word?

我能说一句话吗?

Sure, what is it?

当然,怎么了?

Well, I had a chance to look through your draft proposal.

好吧,我找机会仔细研究了你的提案草案。

Oh?

哦?

I'll cut to the chase: it needs a lot of work.

我就直入主题了:这需要大量的工作。

This is a long, complex document.

这个文档又长又复杂。

It needs to be well-organised, clearly laid-out, and make a good impression on whoever reads it.

它需要整理得井井有条,布局清晰,并给阅读该书的人留下良好的印象。

So, what needs changing?

那么需要改变什么呢?

Honestly, I think you need to go back to the drawing board and think about how to organise your ideas.

老实说,我认为你需要从头再来,考虑一下如何组织你的想法。

Currently, it's hard to follow because it's incoherent.

目前很难理解,因为它不连贯的。

You jump from one topic to another, which makes it difficult to focus on your main idea.

你从一个主题跳到另一个主题,所以难以专注于你的主要思想。

Huh… Also, you need to pay more attention to detail.

啊……另外,你需要更加注意细节。

I checked some of the data you quote, and many of the figures are inaccurate.

我检查了你引用的一些数据,但许多数字都不准确。

I didn't check everything, because that's your responsibility.

我没有检查所有内容,因为那是你的责任。

Remember that their legal department will also be looking through this, so it needs to be watertight.

记住他们的法律部门也将对此进行检查,因此它必须是滴水不漏的。

Double check any figures or other data you're using and don't cut corners.

仔细检查你使用的任何数字或其他数据,不要偷工减料。

OK, that's my fault.

好,那是我的错。

I'll be more careful.

我会加倍小心的。

Finally, you need to tidy up the language.

最后,你需要整理一下语言。

There are spelling mistakes, ungrammatical sentences, missing punctuation, and so on.

里面有拼写错误,不合语法的句子,还有标点符号缺失等。

I hope it's obvious that you can't make spelling mistakes in a piece of writing like this; it won't make a good impression.

我希望,很明显的是你不能在这样的作品中犯拼写错误; 这会给人留下很不好的印象。

No, of course not.

不,当然不会的。

So, do you think you can deal with this and get a revised draft to me by the end of the week?

所以你可以解决这个问题,并在本周末给我修订后的草稿吗?

Sure, I'll do that.

当然了,我会的。

When giving negative feedback, you can choose between being more direct or more indirect.

当给出负面反馈时,你可以选择更直接或更间接。

This depends on many things: the country you're in, corporate culture, your relationship with the person you're talking to, and more.

这取决于多种因素:你所在的国家/地区,企业文化,与你正在与之交谈的人的关系等等。

Here, you saw some ways to give negative feedback directly.

在这里,你看到了一些直接给出负面反馈的方法。

Look at some phrases from the dialogue.

看一下对话中的一些短语。

Imagine someone asks you to explain what these phrases mean in English.

想象有人要求你解释这些短语在英语中的含义。

How would you do it?

你会怎么做?

Pause the video and think about how to explain the meaning of these phrases.

暂停视频,然后考虑一下如何解释这些短语的含义。

'I'll cut to the chase' signals that you're about to say something negative in a direct way.

“直奔主题”表明你将直接说一些负面的话。

It's a way to introduce a criticism.

这是一种提出批评的方式。

'Go back to the drawing board' means to start something again.

“从头再来”的意思是重新开始做某件事情。

You use this phrase when something is not going to plan, and you need to start again from zero.

当计划的时候没有实现,需要从零开始重新开始的时候可以使用这个短语。

If you cut corners, you rush your work, or you don't pay enough attention to it.

如果偷工减料的话,意思就是你匆匆忙忙地完成工作,或者你没有对此给予足够的重视。

If you tell someone 'don't cut corners', you are telling that person to work carefully and pay attention to detail.

如果你告诉某人“不要偷工减料”,那就是在告诉这个要认真工作,注意细节。

Generally, if you want to give feedback directly, you'll use simpler statements with 'you'.

通常涞水,如果你想直接提供反馈,则可以将更简单的语句与“you”一起搭配使用。

For example: 'you need to pay more attention to detail.' 'You should double check your figures before you send it.' 'You can't go into a meeting like that unprepared.' Direct language is generally simpler.

例如:“你需要更加注意细节”。“在发送之前,你应该仔细检查数字。”“你不能像没有准备的那样参加会议。”直接的语言通常更简单。

You can use 'you'+a verb, as in 'you need to', 'you should', 'you shouldn't', 'you can't', and so on.

你可以使用“你” +动词,例如“你需要”,“你应该”,“你不应该”,“你不能”等。

Now, what about giving negative feedback in a more indirect way?

那么如何以更间接的方式提供负面反馈呢?

Do you have a minute?

能打扰你几分钟吗?

Sure, what's up?

当然,怎么了?

There's a little issue I wanted to discuss with you.

我想和你讨论一个小问题。

Actually, there have been some complaints about the language and humour you use in meetings and in the office generally.

其实人们对于您在会议和办公室中使用的语言和幽默有一些抱怨。

More than one person has complained to me that they find it unprofessional and offensive.

不止一个人向我抱怨说,他们认为这不专业且令人反感。

Really? Like what?

真的吗?比如说呢?

I don't want to get into specific cases.

我不想讨论具体的情况。 我

I just want to remind you that this is a workplace, and there are certain standards of conduct that we all have to adhere to.

只想提醒你,这是一个工作场所,我们每个人都必须遵守特定的行为标准。

So what? No jokes allowed?

所以呢? 不允许开玩笑吗?

That's not what I'm saying, but it's important to understand that not everyone will have the same perspective or sense of humour as you.

我并不是这个意思,但重要的是要了解到,并不是每个人都拥有与你相同的观点或幽默感。

It's advisable to be cautious with your choice of words, especially in meetings or other situations where perhaps not everyone knows each other.

所以我建议你谨慎选择用词,尤其是在会议或其他情况下,可能不是每个人都互相认识。

This seems a little unfair, given that you're not saying who made these complaints, or what I'm supposed to have said.

考虑到你没有说谁在抱怨,或者我应该说什么,这似乎有点不公平。

Well, this is just a friendly chat, but I have also observed some examples of these issues directly.

好吧,只是友好的聊天罢了,但我也直接观察了这些问题的一些例子。

I don't want to take this further, but I would like you to keep these things in mind; hopefully we can avoid similar issues in future.

我不想再详细地说了,但是我希望你记住这件事情。 希望我们将来能避免类似的问题。

In this dialogue, you saw how to give negative feedback indirectly.

在此对话中,你看到了如何间接给出负面反馈。

Here's a question: what are some features of indirect language?

这里有一个问题:间接语言有哪些特点?

How is indirect language different from the direct language you heard in part two?

间接语言与你在第二部分中听到的直接语言有何不同?

Indirect language is generally softer and more impersonal.

间接语言通常更柔和,更中立。

When giving negative feedback, if you want to be indirect, you'll generally avoid sentences with 'you'.

在给出负面反馈时,如果你想间接一点的话,通常会避免使用带有“you”的句子。

Instead, you'll use impersonal constructions, for example with 'there'.

取而代之的是,你将使用中立的结构,例如使用“there”。 你

You heard 'There have been some complaints about the language and humour you use in meetings.' 'There are certain standards of conduct that we all have to adhere to.' Or, you might use impersonal constructions with 'it', as in: 'It's important to understand that not everyone will have the same perspective or sense of humour as you.' 'It's advisable to be cautious with your choice of words.' Take that last example.

听到“对于你在会议中使用的语言和幽默有一些抱怨之词。”“我们必须遵守某些行为标准。”或者,你可以使用“it”的中立结构,例如:“重要的是要了解到,并非每个人都拥有与你相同的观点或幽默感。”“我建议谨慎选择用词。”拿最后一个例子来说。

How would you say this in more direct language?

用更直接的语言的话该怎么说?

You would say something like: 'You need to be more cautious with your choice of words', or 'You should be more cautious…' Also, indirect language tends to be less specific.

你可能会说:“你在选择用词时需要更加谨慎”,或者“你应该更加谨慎……”。同样地,间接语言往往不太具体。

In the dialogue I avoided going into details about the problem.

在对话中,我避免赘述有关该问题的细节。

I didn't say who had complained, or describe specific incidents.

我没有说谁曾抱怨过,也没有描述具体事件。

Think about the differences between direct and indirect language that you've seen here.

考虑一下你在这里看到的直接和间接语言之间的差异。

When you need to give someone negative feedback, it's good to decide which approach to use, and control your language accordingly.

当你需要给某人负面反馈时,最好决定使用哪种方法并相应地控制你的语言。

Right, so, about the new design for the logo… Yeah, I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

是的,关于标识的新设计……是的,我很好奇你的想法。

First of all, the colours look strange, don't you think?

首先,颜色看起来很奇怪,你不觉得吗?

Sure, I'm aware of that.

当然,我知道。

I made the prototypes on my laptop while I was on the road, and the screen isn't good enough for design work.

我在旅途中用笔记本电脑制作了原型,但屏幕不足以进行设计工作。

I'll adjust the colours on my desktop.

我会在桌面上调整一下颜色。

I know how I want it to look.

我知道我想要它呈现的效果。

OK, that sounds good.

好,听起来不错。

Now, I like the basic design, with the overlapping circles.

我喜欢带有重叠圆圈的基础设计。

I do think the text should be larger.

我认为文案应该更大一点。

Alright, I can look into that.

好吧,我可以研究一下。

Sometimes it's hard to balance the proportions when you start changing things, but I'll see what I can do.

有时候,当你开始进行修改时,很难平衡比例,但是我知道我能做什么。

Then, I think the thing I like least is these triangles on the right.

然后,我认为我最不喜欢的是右边的这些三角形。

Overall, it looks too busy.

总体而言,它看起来太拥堵了。

There are too many shapes and different parts.

形状和部件过多。

Well, there I have to disagree with you.

好吧,我不同意你的看法。

Our logo now has triangles inside a circle.

我们的徽标现在在圆内有三角形。

This new logo takes the same elements, but presents them in a new way.

这个新徽标采用了相同的元素,但是是以一种新的方式展示的。

It's different, but there's also some continuity with the current logo, which I think is important.

这有所不同,但现在徽标也具有一定的连续性,我认为这很重要。

Hmmm… I mean, I can try to come up with some more ideas, but I don't think this particular logo makes sense if you take the triangles out.

额……我的意思是,我可以尝试提出更多的想法,但是如果你将三角形拿掉,我认为这个特殊的徽标就没有意义了。

Plus, it'll look unbalanced.

另外,它看起来会不太平衡。

Look, I like it overall, but I don't want to rush this decision, and I think you could improve on this design with a bit more time.

我总体上挺喜欢的,但我不想仓促做出这个决定,我想你可以花更多的时间来改进设计。

How about you come up with one or two more versions, and then we'll decide as a team?

不然你可以想一两个版本,然后我们作为一个团队来决定?

OK, that sounds fair.

好的,听起来不错。

I'll see what I can do.

我会看看我能做什么。

When someone is giving you feedback, you can respond in different ways.

当有人给你反馈时,你可以用不同的方式回应。

You can acknowledge their point, or agree with it.

你可以认同他们的观点,也可以同意。

You can promise to take action.

你可以保证采取行动。

Or, you can disagree.

或者,你可以不同意。

Look at five phrases you heard in the dialogue.

看一下你在对话中听到的五个短语。

Can you remember the missing words?

你能记住遗漏的单词吗?

Pause the video if you need more thinking time.

如果你需要更多的思考时间的话,请暂停视频。

Let's see the answers together.

让我们一起看看答案。

To acknowledge or agree with a point someone makes, you can say 'I'm aware of that' or 'That sounds fair'.

要认可或同意某人的观点的话,你可以说“我意识到这一点了”或“听起来很不错”。

You could also use phrases like 'I understand,' 'I get it', or 'I take your point.' To promise to take action when someone gives you feedback, you could say 'I can look into that' or 'I'll see what I can do.' You could also say 'I'll work on that' or 'I'll get on it right away'.

你还可以使用“我理解了”,“我明白”或“我明白你的意思”之类的短语。为了保证在有人给你反馈时采取行动,你可以说“我会研究一下”或“我会看看我能做什么”。你也可以说“我会继续努力”或“我马上就做一下”。

'Get on it' means to start working on something.

“Get on it”是指开始做某事。

It's a more informal phrase.

这是一个比较非正式的短语。

To disagree with someone, you could say 'I have to disagree with you.' If you want to be more indirect, you could say 'I'm not sure I agree', or 'I have a different perspective on that.' If you want to be more direct, say something like 'I don't think that's true' or 'I don't agree with that.' Now, you should know different ways to give and respond to feedback.

要不同意某人的话,你可以说“我不同意你的看法”。如果你想变得更间接委婉一点的话,可以说“我不确定我是否同意”,或者“我对此有不同的看法”。如果你想更直接一点,请这样说:“我觉得不是那样的”或者是“我不同意”。现在,你应该知道提供和回复反馈的不同方法了。

You can review parts of the video again if you need to.

如果需要的话,你可以再次查看视频的部分。
